“Our dream, is to see this forest, become an entrepreneurial ecosystem of positive community transformation. I would want to see the forest become the pivot upon which the community around has been transformed”

The LEPROME Forest Media team sat down with Dr. Catherine Promise Biira for an interview over a cup of coffee recently. Here are excerpts…

We have always been nature enthusiasts, we are just people who love nature. I think if they had given us alternative business models, we would still have gone into tree planting.

“If you invest in a forest, there is a social service that you give even when you are not earning anything from the forest as an entrepreneur, and it is always fulfilling to make a contribution to deal with issues of climate change, to employ people.”

I like businesses that can lend themselves to social entrepreneurship, where you do not just do something because you want profit and a return on investment, but also give to the community.

  • “I want to see children go to school because their parents worked in the forest”
  • “I want to see people have electricity, biogas, because we produce it in the forest”
  • “I want to see people be able to testify that there is a direct linkage between that forest existing and improvement of their livelihood”
  • “We want to reach a point when there is an obvious distinction between the people surrounding LeProme, and others, in regard to the forest’s impact on the community”
